Submission Guidelines
Iqra! Newspaper warmly welcomes submissions & proposals
Pay is based on experience. We will develop a pay scale based on level of experience and quality of work in the future. Currently we receive proposals from writers with their own rates. We look at the rates, and the quality of the work. Iqra does not hold the copyrights of work unless the work is commissioned for that purpose.
We do not have full-time writers. All of our writers are working on a freelance basis and must fill out a W-9 form (no exceptions)

The POI section gives our readers snippets of: international news, regional, local, political and news as it relates to Muslims.
We like to publish stories of the lives of Muslims. They tell their personal stories. Life In Islam often publishes compelling revert stories. (We do not offer pay for this section)
Muslim Writers / Fiction & non Fiction
This is something completely new we are experimenting with in support of upcoming and struggling Muslim writers who often do not have the means to get wide exposure of their work. We created a Muslim writer’s page to promote books and Muslim writers. Special advertisements are available for Muslim writers. See sample
We feature a city, community, country in each edition of Iqra Newspaper. We started this series with our visit to India, then we featured our trip to Los Angeles, and recently our trip to Dubai. We are always looking for different communities to highlight in our newspaper, big or small. The featured location usually has a large beautiful picture on our front page.

The team at Iqra! firmly believes in the importance of developing a strong, committed and a successful Muslim media. While Iqra Newspaper serves the Muslim community, we have an open policy, and accept submissions to those writers who can speak to our audience whether Muslim or from a different faith.
We embrace open discussion and understand that diversity can often start interesting conversations. We believe that the Muslim community should aspire to move forward within an environment of mutual respect so that we may more fully fulfill our responsibilities and capabilities, inshaAllah. At Iqra! we believe that our central concern is to ensure that the newspaper follows the guidelines of our religion. . We do not ascribe to conservative, progressive or modernist labels, we are a newspaper, and although it is our intention to bring about understanding of Muslim people, our religion and culture, the other part of our mission is report the news of the day.
Our team comprises of people from diverse nationalities and backgrounds. We welcome submissions from interested and talented individuals.
Consider the points below when submitting your work to Iqra!
1) Resumes are not required but helpful, please tell us about yourself, and about your interest
2) We request that submissions enquiries be emailed, please copy and paste resumes inside of the email. Any attachments must be in pdf formats or saved as “text” tile and not a MS Word file because of compatibility issues. Links to published articles are highly encouraged.
3) Please inform us if the work has been published before, and if so, where, and when it was published.
4) Send 3 examples of previous work.
5) Articles should not extend beyond 1200 words. Feature columnist are 266 words, short articles are 550 words.
